Folkal Point, produced and presented by Colin MacDonald on Thursday evenings at 10.00pm on Paisley FM 107.5, this week has a very special feature on the birthday of Robert Burns on 25 January.
Robert Burns was born on 25 January 1759, and he is also known familiarly as Rabbie Burns, the National Bard, the Bard of Ayrshire and the Ploughman Poet and various other names. He was a Scottish poet and lyricist.
Robert was widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide. He is the best known of the poets who have written in the Scots language, although much of his writing is also in English and a light Scots dialect, accessible to an audience beyond Scotland. He also wrote in standard English, and in these writings his political or civil commentary is often at its bluntest.
He died, aged just 37 on 21 July 1796. Colin will be playing a variety of songs to celebrate ‘Rabbie’ Burns’ Birthday on Thursday, 23 January 10.00pm until 12 midnight.
