SNP wins Renfrewshire North and South Constituencies

 

The Paisley FM team of James Cameron, James Kelly and Ross Turnbull were at The Lagoon Leisure Centre, Paisley last night, Thursday 12 December until 3.30am on Friday 13 December for the General Election 2019 results for the Paisley & Renfrewshire North Constituency and the Paisley & Renfrewshire South Constituency.

The team presented live programmes and input from 10.00pm when the Polling Stations closed until the results were made in the early hours of Friday morning.

Mhairi Black has been re-elected as the MP for Paisley & Renfrewshire South, with an increased majority. The Scottish National Party candidate beat Labour’s Moira Ramage by 10,679 votes, more than double the majority at the 2017 election. Mark Dougan of the Conservative Party came third and Liberal Democrat Jack Clark came fourth.

Voter turnout was down by 1.1 percentage points since the last General Election.  More than 43,000 people went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

Gavin Newlands has been re-elected as the MP for Paisley & Renfrewshire North, with an increased majority. The Scottish National Party candidate beat Labour’s Alison Taylor by 11,902 votes, more than double the majority at the 2017 election. Julie Pirone of the Conservative Party came third and Liberal Democrat Ross Stalker came fourth.

Voter turnout was down by 0.1 percentage points since the last general election. Nearly 50,000 people, 69% of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area.
