Iain McMillan from Johnstone Community Council was the guest on the Paisley FM 107.5 morning show on Thursday 22 August. Programme presenter James Cameron will welcomed Iain to chat about this weekend’s Johnstone Gala Day 2019 on Sunday 25 August.
The Johnstone Gala Day is probably the last of the summer 2019 gala days held across Renfrewshire, and the weather prospects are looking good for the event which takes place at Thomas Shanks Public Park at the junction of Beith Road and Quarrelton Road in Johnstone. The weather forecast predicts sunshine and temperatures of up to 21C.
Iain, who is the chair of Johnstone Community Council, will be in studio 1 of Paisley FM to talk about Johnstone Gala Day and all the planned activities on the day. That will include being a family fun day which will be full of stalls. All the fun starts at 12.30pm on Sunday through until 4.30pm.
- Thomas Shanks Park is named after a leading industrialist of the nineteenth century who owned a company of heavy machine toolmakers, Thomas Shanks and Company. At this time, Thomas’s daughter, Mrs J Polson, gifted the park to the town in the name of her late father for the recreation of the local people of Johnstone. Thomas Shanks & Co went into liquidation on 14 January 1928 but the park still remains as a testament to a noted family who lived and worked in Johnstone.
