A Paisley resident, Rachel Lovell, has nominated singer, song-writer and recording artist Angela Duncan as a ‘Local Hero’.
Rachel Lovell said: “Angela stepped in to help me when my carer had to quit suddenly last year. She has brought me a real sense of hope and nothing is too much trouble for her, and she has instilled so much hope and confidence into my life. Even though I cannot afford all the hours of care I need, she ensures that my needs are met and took me to Paisley Book Festival. She had been the only company I have had during Lockdown. She is a lot of fun!
Rachel added: “I lived in Paisley since returning from Portugal due to health difficulties; came for a year and ended up staying! I am disabled, but was able to complete my degree in Psychology at UWS Paisley.”
It was as a result of a programme on Paisley FM if I recall correctly that I realised that I suffered from depression!
Angela lost all her regular work and income when lockdown stopped public gatherings from 23 March 2020.
Usually, Angela sings in care homes, does weddings and other events, including singing at the Accord Hospice Christmas event. She is well known in the Italian community. Angela originally comes from Rothesay on the Isle of Bute, but has lived in Paisley for many years.
Angela loves to sing and entertain and misses having an opportunity to sing for people. She has great communication skills putting people at ease.
No one was clapping for carers in her street in Paisley, so she decided to do a couple of songs on Thursdays at 8pm; it has just grown as people drive by and has been doing it every Thursday until 28 May, as that is the last of the ‘Thursday night at 8 Clapping for NHS Carers’.
Here is Angela Duncan entertaining local residents on Thursday 28 May at 8pm ‘Clapping for Carers’.
