Well Street gas explosion

Emergency services were called early this morning (Saturday) to a gas explosion in at a building in Well Street, Paisley.  The incident is having an impact on services running on the nearby railway line, with a number of routes being changed.

The explosion is thought to have taken place within a premises in Well Street in the west-end of Paisley with the road completely closed and the public being asked to avoid the area.

A number of surrounding roads have also been cordoned off by police who arrived early on Saturday morning, 23 March. There are no reports of injuries at this time.

ScotRail confirmed that due to the emergency incident, services between Glasgow Central, Largs and Ardrossan Harbour have been suspended.  Services between Glasgow Central and Ayr are also being delayed or terminated at Johnstone from Ayr and started from Johnstone to Ayr. Trains between Glasgow Central and Gourock, and Glasgow Central and Paisley Canal, are also subject to delays or cancellations.

Renfrewshire Council have issued an updated statement on Saturday afternoon: “Following the incident at Well Street, repairs are on-going and Well Street remains closed, but the safety cordon is being lifted on surrounding streets. This means our waste collection teams are now able to start their Saturday collections.”
