On this page of the paisleyfm website, we will provide information from partner Renfrewshire Citizens Advice Scotland Bureau in Paisley on all personal and family matters in relation to COVID-19 Coronavirus and the current ‘lock-down’ on all activities.
Listen here to a special message from Kay Taylor:
Update on how Renfrewshire CAB is responding to Covid-19
First and foremost, your safety and that of our colleagues is our main priority writes Kay Taylor.
We have implemented procedures, which enable our staff to work securely from home.
To enable us to help those clients who need us most, we need your help. All clients with routine enquiries should visit www.citizensadvice.org.uk/scotland/ there you will find information on covid-19, scams, benefits, employment, debt, housing and Law; to name but a few. The information is updated daily, so I would encourage you to make use our information system at this time.
If your enquiry is more urgent, you can email us using email@example.com.
By using these alternative methods you are allowing us to release telephony capacity and assist those clients who have more complex needs.
Our phone line 0141 889 2121 is currently overwhelmed, so please bear with us. We recognise your needs will differ and therefore we will be dealing with clients on a case by case basis.
If you currently have a case with us, you will receive a letter from us shortly highlighting how we will communicate with you in the future.
Stay safe and I’ll be back soon with more updates.
BBC News release – Universal Credit
Applying for UC was something we discussed in our Paisley FM feature of 17 March 2020.
Everyone applying for UC can also apply for something called an Advance Payment – you can ask for an advance payment if you don’t think you’ll have enough money to live on between when you apply, and when you get your first payment.
However, the advance payment is a loan – you will have to pay it back. Basically, this reduces your future payments until repaid.
So to avoid going into debt, we want to remind claimants that they can apply to Renfrewshire Council, for a Crisis Grant – which does not require you to pay it back. The Renfrewshire Council Crisis Grant telephone number is 0300 300 0204. You should get an answer or the money within a few days and even quicker if your need is urgent.
Stay safe and I’ll be back with more updates soon.
