Paisley FM was awarded a community radio licence by UK broadcasting regulator Ofcom on 1 February 2018 with an FM radio licence for Paisley, Renfrew and Johnstone and across Renfrewshire area.
There were two applicants for the FM licence with Paisley FM being successful. This has brought a service back to the town after an absence of some 18 years when the then Q96 left Paisley in 2001 for Glasgow and its eventual closure as Xfm in September 2015.
The licence application, which was also supported by local politicians, Renfrewshire Council, the clergy and Paisley artists was submitted in July 2017, with a final decision by Ofcom published on 1 February 2018.
Paisley FM director Bob McWilliam said: “This is a really exciting day for Paisley and Renfrewshire and for radio listeners. Our proposal to Ofcom – which is now a reality – was always about creating a distinctive station for the people of Paisley and Renfrewshire, made by the people of Paisley and Renfrewshire.”
Included in the mix are music programmes featuring Paisley and Renfrewshire musicians and creatives. There will be ‘live’ sessions recorded at The Bungalow – Paisley’s music venue and also from the team at Lead Boot music and records featuring sessions, recordings, interviews and gossip.
