Mike McLean celebrates 900 Vinyl Frontiers with special guests

Tonight, Sunday 25 August 2019 at 7.00pm, Paisley FM presenter Mike McLean will celebrate the 900th edition of his popular Vinyl Frontier programme which features all the hits and memories from the era of the 45rpm singles from the late 1950s and into the 1980s.

Special guests include Ian Donaldson (left), formerly of 1980s band H2O who were a Scottish band that formed in Glasgow in 1978. The band had two UK Top 40 hits in 1983 with the singles I Dream to Sleep and Just Outside of Heaven. Lead singer Ian Donaldson and bassist Alan McGhee (who later managed rock band Oasis in the 1990s) formed H2O.

Ian will air the first play of his new single ‘There Are Days’  which will be released in mid-September 2019.  Ian says: “I’ll be chatting with Mike during the first hour of his show about my past, present and October’s Show at The Admiral in Waterloo Street, in Glasgow city centre.

Also on the 900th Vinyl Frontier will be J. Vincent Edwards who Mike spoke to at his home in Switzerland, and who is a regular listener to The Vinyl Frontier on Paisley FM.  J. Vincent Edwards became well known in the musical Hair in 1968, and began recording a series of singles. Later, Edwards, who is 72, turned to song writing with Pierre Tubbs wrote Right Back Where we started From, which was a No. 2 hit fo Maxine Nightingale in May 1976.

Mike’s first Vinyl Frontier of oldies songs was aired on Dumbarton based commercial station Castle Rock FM 103 in May 2001.  And when Castle Rock FM was renamed Your Radio in November 2003, Mike stayed with Your Radio until it got into financial difficulties in May 2018 and he had to leave the radio station as it no longer had studio facilities.

Mike then joined the brand new Paisley FM 107.5 when it launched in March 2019 and brought his popular Vinyl Frontier and many fans to Paisley FM.

Join Mike McLean with Ian Donaldson tonight, Sunday 25 August from 7.00 until 10.00pm on Paisley FM 107.5 and on DAB digital radio in Glasgow.
